Spes Bona Farm Durbanville
As is much the norm these days, the sections were set the week before. During the week though there was much rain in Cape Town so we were not sure what to expect as far as the sections were concerned. They however had suffered very little. The donga that was section one was possibly a little deeper but this was made up at section seven where some silt had filled up a hole for us.
The sections can tend to be a bit repetitive at this venue, but the hard work put in by Tim, Jorge and his brother Mike, and I had at least provided some new ones. Section 1 was for both classes and made some riders think that there must be worse to come but it was not really so. It just happened to be a fairly tricky first section. Section 2 was unique in that two parallel donga’s were used; the experts going up the right hand one and the clubmen the left one which is easier and has been used before. The next section was a climb, and the next two after that were consecutive on a rocky outcrop. Section six was, for the experts quite tricky with an off camber turn being the problem. No cleans on this section but plenty of one’s. This section took the most marks off the experts while section one took the most off the clubmen. Section seven and eight were also consecutive with seven also not being cleaned, but again, plenty of one’s.
The turn out was better than the first trial but Nick and Clive Lucas found they were both much out of practise and retired early. Young Robert Sandell rode his first trial in the clubman class and although filling last place did very well to finish. Well done Robert, it was a very good effort! He has made a lot of progress since we last saw him, thanks very much to his father.
Deon De Villiers seemed to be having a good ride and was the first to clean section 1.

The next trial will be on Saturday 14th May at Kuils River. This is both because the owner doesn’t want his Sunday disturbed and also to avoid clashing with the Economy Run. Deon will be organising it.
