I woke up pretty early and decided to watch some of the All Stars Cricket game until it was time to get ready for the ride.
The weather was a bit iffi with plenty clouds and wind around and not really a pleasant day to be out on the bike.
We arrived at Damelin first with Ian and Mandy pitching shortly afterwards. More Nomads and visitors arrived and we were fairly jolly group waiting for Ian to make his speech so that we can take on the long road to Paternoster. John Lee decided to take his Kawa out of mothballs and John van der Spuy brought Heather along for the ride. Welcome Heather, great that you could get a Sunday off to join us.
The route took us onto the N2, M5, N1, Sable Road, N7, Melkbos turn-off, R27, through Vredenburg and onto Mosselbank Road, turning left into St Augustine Road in Paternoster and to our venue Skatkis Restaurant at the Paternoster Lodge.
We were joined by the 4-wheel squad consisting of Mark and Yvonne(camera in hand), Danni and also Ian and Haley, who’s bike had a puncture and was forced to add two more wheels to their morning’s transport. Alister and Val joined us a tad later.
We ordered some liquid refreshments and Krog, Kevin and Gerhard ordered the Skatkis breakfast while John and myself opted for omelettes. Won’t say it was the biggest plate of food I had, but it was warm and tasty.
We stood chatting for a while and decided to take the road back home again. Boring straight road but not without incident. A few kilometers before Melkbos we saw a familiar green bike on a trailer on the side of the road. On closer inspection we found John, Mandy and Ian with Steve the Bike Collector and a green Kawasaki on the trailer. John did not only suffer a blown back tyre, but something went wrong in the engine and a fair amount of oil poured on to the tarmac. No idea of how bad the damage, but that mean green machine ain’t going anywhere for a while – it’s teeth have been pulled.
Then there is another story of our chairman’s bike giving out on him on a pre-Paternoster run on Friday and our current Club Captain had to return to Cape Town and fetch a HARLEY DAVIDSON trailer to retrieve the stranded BMW. That just shows – never say never.
We had a good turnout of 30 members, 4 visitors, 18 bikes and 4 x 4-wheelers.
A huge thanx to everyone who braved the windy overcast conditions to join us on the run.
And on that cheery note, that is all I have for you for the time being.
Keep it safe on the road
Till next time.
Jean.
