A Tribute to Luderick Jacoby
Since 1993, Luderick Jacoby has been the steady heart and guiding force behind The Buff. For more than three decades, he carried the responsibility, the pressure, and the countless unseen hours that go into creating an event that became far more than just a rally – it became a legend.
Luderick has now decided that the time is right to hand over the reins to a new set of willing hands within the Nomads Motorcycle Club. It is not a decision taken lightly, and those who understand what it takes to organise an event of this magnitude will appreciate the enormous commitment, sacrifice, and dedication required to keep The Buff alive year after year.
Thank you, Luderick, for your vision, your perseverance, and the sheer effort you invested over so many years. The atmosphere, the camaraderie, the unforgettable venues, and the unmistakable spirit of The Buff are a direct reflection of the care and pride you poured into it.
We’ve shared a small collection of photos here. True to form, Luderick has always been on the shy side, preferring to work behind the scenes rather than in front of the camera, so there aren’t many photos of him over the years. These few, however, are special memories, captured moments of someone who gave so much while asking for very little in return.
While we have not yet found a volunteer ready to take on the full responsibility of organising The Buff, we are confident that the right person will step forward in time. Until then, The Buff will be taking a short breather. Sadly, this does mean that there will be no Buff in 2026, but this pause is taken with optimism and hope – in the belief that this great tradition will continue in the future, built on the solid foundation Luderick has laid.
From all of us, thank you, Luderick. Your legacy lives on in every memory, every friendship forged, and every story told around a braai at The Buff.
With sincere appreciation,
Nomads Motorcycle Club
