Once the rain storm had subsided on the Friday morning, the weather cleared very nicely for the Sunday ride. So, it was off to Damelin to see who had survived the rain storm from the Friday.
Upon arrival at Damelin, there were a few bikes waiting for the ride to start. Once having greeted everybody and briefed them on the restaurant and the route, we set off.
The route comprised of riding onto the N2 and then onto the M3, the old De Waal Drive, avoiding the small mud slides by riding in the cleared section of the roadway, then it was left up Jutland Avenue, onto Mill Street, past the Gardens shopping centre, past the old De Waal Hotel, where I stopped the ride, so the visitors/back markers could catch up to the front of the ride.
Once all the bikes were together again, we set off turning left into Upper Orange Street and then right into Camp Street, past De Waal Park up to Kloofnek Road where we turned left to proceed over Kloofnek and down Camps Bay Drive. We turned left into Houghton Road and again left into Victoria Road towards Hout Bay. After riding past the Twelve Apostles Hotel we got stuck behind a queue of vehicles due to more mud slides and half way between the hotel and the top of Suikerbossie Hill there was a major mud slide that caused the Traffic Services and Roadworks Department to have a stop/go system in place. Fortunately, we were in the go system, so there was no further delay on our ride.
Over Suikerbossie Hill down into Hout Bay taking the first left turn to cross the valley and at the second circle we turned left into Hout Bay Main Road. Up to Constantia Neck and turned right into Constantia Main Road, down to Ladie`s Mile Road turning right, crossing the M3 and turning right onto the M3.
At Steenberg Road the ride turned right and proceeded onto Ou Kaapse Weg and over into Fish Hoek proceeding up to Kommetjie Road turning left towards Fish Hoek. At the circle in Fish Hoek we turned left and at the first set of traffic lights, Recreation Road, we turned right then it was a right turn and a left turn across the railway line and into the parking area of the beach.
Having parked our bikes, it was into the Beachcomber Bistro where we settled at our tables and started to order our breakfasts. The breakfasts were good value for our money. The bills were charged per table and settled and we all departed for our respective residences.
There were 15 members, 15 visitors, 13 bikes and 2 cars.
