It looked like the weather could not make up its mind, to rain or not to rain!
On arriving at Damelin the usual suspects were already waiting, of course some of them under cover as a few drops of rain had started falling. I myself also stood under cover until the arrival of a few more Nomads and Visitors. I am happy to report that Aunty Helewese is back in the saddle although her foot has not completely healed yet.
Ian Sinclair arrived on his new blue Harley, John van Spuy arrived on his new burnt orange Triumph 1050 (yes John I have got this right!) Congrats gentlemen! Ray Bergman also rode in on his Aprilia Caponord 1000. I have to add that after the arrival of our President I had “writers block” as we do not often have the pleasure of his company. LoL.
As Captain H and Annari are away in St Helena Bay, Captain Jacoby was asked to lead the ride and after the usual briefing we were on our way. We took the N2, joined up with the M5 onto the N1 and then onto the N7. Shortly after the Morning Star turnoff we were pulled off by a friendly Traffic Officer for a licence check. He first checked a few licences of the riders up front and then probably realised he was wasting his time as everyone started producing their licence for inspection. He also made a strange comment about everyone over 50 years may go; I would say that would be about half the riders! Then he changed his mind and let everyone go ahead, strange fellow! Maybe he was bored and just wanted to liven up his morning!
Our first and only pit stop was at the Engen Garage at Philadelphia for yours truly and of course for those who needed a smoke break. On departure we headed towards Malmesbury. We then exited the N7 and headed towards Atlantis and actually rode through the Suburb of Wesfleur, Atlantis, towards the West Coast road. We eventually took the Melkbosstrand turn off and arrived at our destination, the Castelle Amare Restaurant. We had to kill some time as we were a bit early as our booking was only for 10am, this being the time they opened up anyway.
Eager beavers Henry and Antoinette were already at the venue.
Nice to see Kevin Harvey, Veronica and their little boy, Michelle, Jaryd and Chelsea Parish and Johan and Suzaan Burger and their little ones, John and Lorraine Potter, Sheldon Elliott also joined us for breakfast. It must have been a very long ride for Sheldon as his comment in the book was “I’m starving”!
John van der Spuy unfortunately was not able to stay for breakfast as he had another appointment. Breakfast was a traditional South African breakfast, omelettes with various fillings etc. I always opt for an omelette and this morning’s filling was smoked salmon, cheddar, feta and mushrooms, really yummy!
Ian Sinclair was getting hot flushes at the table, should we be worried? Is this what a Harley does to a person? LoL. Glen Kotze alias Captain fearless couldn’t resist adding in his five cents every now and then, I eventually had to throw a piece of lemon at him to keep him quiet!
All in all a good time was had by everyone and too soon it was time to leave.
Till next time
Be safe
