We woke up to a brilliant sunny clear blue skies morning, with no signs of rain anywhere near Cape Town. So, it was off to Damelin College in Mowbray.
Mandy and I were the first people to get to Damelin. Soon other members started to arrive and the numbers going on the ride started to climb.
Ivy Matthews arrived on her new KTM 1050cc with her husband in tow on his very dirty KTM 1190cc. Then John and Heather van der Spuy arrived on their new Triumph Tiger 1200cc Adventure, still with a temporary 21-day permit cello taped to the number plate bracket, having only collected the bike on Saturday, the day before. Barry Wrankmore arrived in his car, with some story about his quick shifter gear lever jumping out of gear half way through a corner in Franschhoek pass the weekend before. As far as I know quick shifters are only meant to be fitted to superbikes.
The time of 08h30 ticked by and I called everybody closer to brief them on the route and the mystery destination, which soon was no longer a mystery, as we were now going to the Wimpy restaurant at the Swartland Engen One Stop on the N7.
Helmets and gloves on and motorcycles started up it was onto the N2, turning left onto the M5 and sticking to the speed limit as we went past two speed enforcement [speed trap] cameras. Over the now not so new Koeberg fly over and onto the N1, staying in the left lane to take the service road past Century City. Then it was left onto the N7 and into the right lane to stay clear of off ramps and on ramps, so that the general public in their rolling cages would not be inconvenienced.
Past the refinery and past Du Noon, the weigh bridge and the turn off to Melkbosstrand, I pulled the ride into the left lane as it was soon time to take the off ramp into the forecourt of the Engen one stop. We parked our bikes on the left side of the restaurant, out of the way of the main parking area and the fuel pumps. Into the restaurant, where coffees and breakfasts were ordered, and the conversation got going amongst the members. Unfortunately, the restaurant only allocated one waiter to our group of tables, so the service was a little bit slow for some of the members, who preferred to chat before placing their orders. Maybe they were not use to 19 hungry people arriving all at the same time. Soon it was time to settle the bills at each table and depart for prior arrangements.
There were 15 members, 4 visitors, 14 bikes and 1 car.

The next ride is on Sunday 5th August 2018, going to the Mugg and Bean restaurant at Bayside Mall, Table View.
Once again this will be a short ride, slightly longer than the abovementioned ride.
