Low cloud, Wind and the promise of a miserable day greeted me this morning when I peeked through the window at my home in Bellville! Phoned our Chairman to look at his view of Table Mountain from his house, since I could not see it and his reply had me deciding whether to “rain suit” up or go with the normal gear! Remembering the absolute terrible weather we experienced on our last outing to the venue, I thought to myself it can not possibly get worse than that and decided on the easier option! No rain suit!
Met my friend Wayne at our usual Garage and off we went to Damelin where we were met by two prospective members, Chris and Melvin and were joined by various members as the clock ticked on to 08h00! After confirming with Hout Bay SAPS via Glen Kotze we were confident that bad weather was going to give us a break today!
We departed towards Hout Bay via Rhodes Drive, over Constantia Neck and onto Hout Bay and apart from nothing more than a few very scattered drops, we reached Victoria Rd, where we were met by hundreds of Argus hopefuls (9 March 2014) cycling up the hill towards Camps Bay or wherever???? We went on past Twelve Apostles, Llandudno, Camps Bay, Sea Point, where we also passed another swarm of walkers who were doing some Mandela Day event along Beach Rd and on to the N1. After witnessing the cyclists, runners and walkers it is certain that we have a pretty fit lot living in the Western Cape!
We turned off at Marine Drive, Paarden Island and went on towards Blouberg where we turned onto Beach Rd and went on to the venue. By this time, apart from a couple of gusts, the weather actually turned out ok! On arrival at the venue everybody were waiting and we were joined by other Nomads (Quad squad). We were also joined by Arthur’s sister Michelle and friend Gareth and kids. We enjoyed good service, had lekker breakfast and other stuff, good company and a generally nice time! While there we were also visited by the cities finest (collection books and all), who took a peculiar interest in our steeds parked outside and left without any forward donations, to something more worthwhile, I presume!
By about 11h00 we were all off!
See you next time!
Andre
