REPORT ON THE BREAKFAST RIDE TO THE BLOEMHOF RESTAURANT AND SPORTS BAR, OAKDALE, BELLVILLE ON 15 JUNE 2014 – BY JEAN POTGIETER

Lying in bed at about 7 am this morning, I could hear the rain absolutely pounding down on the roof. That, combined with an almost gale-force wind, did not make for a very appetising prospect for the ride ahead.

Krog decided to go by bike to Damelin and wait to see who turned up. After a bit of a lonely wait, low and behold, bang on half past eight Simon arrived on his Suzuki. The weather still looked pretty ominous, and Krog and Simon took turns to be Club Captain or Tail-end Charlie, depending who was in front. The “ride” ended here at home with Krog picking me up, swapping the Kawa for a Golf as I was a bit chicken for a bike ride, and Simon carrying on to the venue.

As we arrived at Bloemhof, we were met by Captain H (home from Darkest Africa), Annari, Wayne, Alicia, Paul, Cornelia, Robert, Lizl, Wesley, Mark and Yvonne. They were making the best of the cold weather with a cup of hot coffee/tea. (???)

More members of the quad-squad arrived and it was time to sit down and have some breakfast which comprised of bacon, sausage, egg, mushrooms, chips and lots of toast. Really scrumptious and very well priced.

In the meantime the weather improved and a few shy sun-rays made their way through the clouds, so we had a dry run home.

The ride was attended by 21 people (18 members, 3 visitors) and also 3 tiny tots (Faye, Francois and Franzaan) and a little one month old sample called Albert. Definitely the youngest potential Nomad on a ride for some time.

And wait for it: 1 Suzuki motorcycle and 8 quads on the ride. One comment in the book read “real bikers go by car”. That says it all, looks like some of us Nomads are getting a bit old … or what?

Bloemhof is a really cosy, perfect for weather such as this morning’s venue, but can also cater for a beautiful sunshine day under the umbrellas on the terrace.

Just wanted to say welcome to Andre, Willie and Alex back from their Africa trip.  Also to Luderick,  “get well soon” –  we missed you guys this morning.
