Sunday morning was cloudy, cold and there was the possibility of rain at any moment. This was the complete opposite to the day before, which had bright warm sunshine.
Be whatever the weather was, there was a club ride to attend. So off to Damelin to see who was brave enough to ride in the unpredictable weather. Arriving at Damelin, Kevin and Konrad were on their bikes and Val and Barrett were in their car as Barrett was recovering from Bronchitis and flu. Soon more members arrived and at 08h30 I briefed everybody on the restaurant and the route and it was decided to take the quickest and shortest route to the restaurant.
Having donned our helmets and having put on our gloves we left Damelin at 08h40 and the route was fairly straight forward. From Damelin we turned right onto the N2 and left onto the M5, sticking to the speed limit of 80 km/h as there was a speed enforcement camera at the bridge over the river on the M5 and there were too many cars to travel any quicker and to sort ourselves out in the lanes of traffic. The ride continued over Koeberg Interchange onto the N1. We proceeded along the N1 in the middle lane, just below the speed limit. Approaching the Bellville/ Durban Road turn off, I got the ride into the left lane and at the intersection of Durban Road, we turned left towards Durbanville and got into the right lane as we were due to turn right into Bloemhof Road about 500 meters further up the road. Having turned right into Bloemhof Road I stopped the ride as the last bikes in the group had to stop at the red traffic light in Durban Road.
Eventually those bikes joined us, and we set off up the road, round the circle and slowly over a huge speed bump, then we turned right and left into the Oakdale complex and parked outside the restaurant.
We entered the restaurant and were guided to the bar/lapa area at the rear of the restaurant. There they had bar heaters on and bench tables and we sat down and ordered our coffees, cappuccinos and then the breakfasts. The Bloemhof breakfast was the most popular order with one or two ordering something else on the menu. The breakfasts were good value for our money. There was a note on the menu stating that each meal is individually made so it would take a little bit of time for our food to arrive. The wait was worthwhile. When the food did arrive, it was hot and tasty and there was plenty of toast with lots of butter and jam. While waiting for our food, Wally Brandt and his wife Emily arrived on his bike. What a pleasant surprise.
Once again it was time to settle the bill and head off home before it was going to start to rain. There were 9 members and 3 visitors. 6 bikes and 1 car.

The next ride is on Sunday 16th September 2018. This is the Marsh Memorial Home childrens ride. I need 22 bikes to convey the children and 2 carers. We will be going to the Roeland Street Fire Station for a visit and then onto McDonalds, Green point for lunch. I will need some pillions to arrive by car to convey extra pillions.
This I will discuss at the general meeting on Monday 10th September.
