A lovely Autumn morning to ride our bikes on the long weekend, with Monday being a public holiday.
At Damelin we stood around chatting and at 08h00 I called the riders closer to brief them on the route and the venue. As the restaurant only opened at 09h00 there was no rush to depart from Damelin. I phoned the restaurant/events coordinator and gave her the number of people that would be having breakfast. We departed Damelin at about 08h15 and turned right onto the N2. Riding slowly along the N2 as the last 3 or 4 bikes had to stop at the red traffic lights under the N2.
Once the bikes had caught up to the lead group, the speed was increased to the speed limit on the N2 and we stayed in the right lane so as not to interfere with vehicles wanting to leave or join the N2. No problem there as the traffic was fairly light at this time of the day.
After the S bend at Somerset West, I moved the group over to the left lane as we were going to take the turn off to the Strand to go down the Main Road. At the turn off, I stopped as the last 3 bikes were lagging behind. By the time I had walked to the back of the group, the 3 bikes were turning left to re-join the group. We continued down the Main Road, past the industrial area and car dealerships and the railway station. At the next traffic light intersection, Gordons Bay Drive, we turned left and proceeded to the Green Fountain Restaurant, about 500 meters down the road. We arrived at about 08h50 and the restaurant was already open, and the staff were ready and willing to serve us.
The restaurant is in a very pleasant setting with a beauty salon off to the left side. Wally Brandt joined us going direct to the restaurant. PLEASE, PLEASE members if you are going direct to the restaurant, PLEASE let me know beforehand so I can inform the venue as to the number of people attending.
Orders were taken for coffee and breakfast and the food arrived quite quickly. Service was quick and efficient, and the food was very tasty. Well worth the money.
Once again, the hunger pains been quietened, and the bills paid, the riders left for their respective homes and prior engagements.
There were 12 members and 3 visitors. 10 bikes and 1 car.
The next ride is on Sunday 15th April 2018, going to Swartland Fisheries, Bokomo Road, Malmesbury, departing Damelin at 08h30.
The next two rides in May are on 6th May going to the Botriver Hotel, Main Road, Botriver. Priced from R42 to R75
And 20th May going to the Bossa Nova Good Times Restaurant, Main Road, Paarl. Priced from R45 to R70
Both rides will depart Damelin at the Winter start time of 08h30
