Once again, the weather was perfect for riding our motorcycles. Bright blue skies and lots of sunshine and no wind. This ride was one week after the Springbok Rally as there was a very poor turnout or certain members did not realize that there was a club ride on the first Sunday of the month.
This being the first ride after the Springbok Rally, the Summer departure time for our rides is now at 08h00. Shortly after 08h00 I briefed the riders on the route and we set off on our ride. Leaving Damelin we turned left onto the N2 and again left onto the M3, at the Kirstenbosch turnoff we turned right, riding through the beautiful areas of Upper Newlands and Kirstenbosch. Turning right at the T junction past the top gate of Kirstenbosch, through the twisty corners and up over Constantia Neck into the Main Road of Hout Bay. At the first traffic circle we exited the circle at 03h00 and crossed the valley and kept straight at the next circle and up to the traffic lights at Victoria Road, where we turned right towards Camps Bay. Up the hill known as Suikerbossie Hill, past the Llandudno turn off, past the twelve Apostle`s Hotel and onto Bakoven and Camps Bay. Travelling through Clifton, Bantry Bay, turning left into Queens Road, Sea Point and turning right into Beach Road, sticking to the speed limit of 50kph and slow-moving traffic. At Three Anchor Bay we turned left towards the Mouille Point lighthouse and proceeded onto Portswood Road and turned left into the Waterfront. Turning right at the circle and turning left at the first pedestrian crossing and parking in the motorcycle bays opposite the brewery company.
We then walked past the big wheel and the NSRI station and turned left and entered the Maresol Restaurant, where we were seated on the balcony under big square umbrellas. Breakfast and cappuccinos and orange juice were ordered. Val Horn recently returned from Canada and Yvonne Pringle had arrived individually in their cars. We had hardly ordered our breakfasts and settled down chatting, when our breakfasts arrived. Comprising of 2 rashes of bacon, scrambled egg, slice of tomato and a Portuguese roll. Everybody enjoyed their meal, then it was time to pay the bill and depart for their respective homes and prior arrangements.
The breakfast cost was R29.95, the cappuccino was R26.00 and the orange juice was R29.00.
There were 11 members, 3 visitors, 7 bikes and 2 cars.
As aforementioned a very poor turn out of bikes and members but thank you to those who did support this ride. It is greatly appreciated.
