At last spring is here and the days can only get warmer as today eventually proved to be. I decided to be brave today and got back on James bike, this also serving as a practice run for the Springbok Rally where it will be quite a long ride. Surprisingly enough it went well and I survived the ride without even having a pit stop! Lol
On arrival at Damelin there was a large number of Nomads and Guests already there, it looked like a mass ride! Capt. H gave everyone the normal speech and the intended route and we were off. We departed Damelin, took the N2, turned left onto the R300 where we encountered a patch of mist and it was actually quite cold. We then took a left onto the N1. Turned right at the Durbanville turn off. It was then a left at Tygervalley turn off and right at the robots onto Tygervalley road and then left into Racecourse road where after we turned right into Contermanskloof. At the four way stop we turned left onto the N7 and then eventually taking a right to the Microlight club.
Arriving at the Microlight club we were greeted by the usual suspects of the quad squad. The weak bladder squad decided to find the toilets first before even thinking about having any coffee! Lol. After settling down we queued for coffee and gave our breakfast orders, I of course made sure that everyone knew where the back of the queue was! Lol. Most of us settled for the full breakfast, which was the normal bacon, eggs, sausage, tomato, potato chips and toast which was nice and tasty.
Luderick and Capt. H gave a speech and thanked the Microlight club for their time and effort in giving the Marsh Memorial Children and us Nomads an airplane ride last year. Capt. H then handed over a laminated poster with the children’s letters of thanks to the pilots which I believe will be put up in their clubhouse. We were once again fortunate to be offered rides again this year which the children of course enjoyed as did some of the adults who didn’t go last year. Yvonne and Pietie took the photos today, Pietie even took a photo of James and Peter in the cockpit which he has promised to email to me. Most of us sat outside in the sun and watched the rides. As you well know everything has to come to an end and so by about 1.15pm most people had left with just a few staying behind.
