Sunday morning was cool, with no sign of rain, which suited us just fine.
It was off to Damelin in Mowbray to meet up with our fellow club members.
At 08h00 I called the riders closer to brief them on the route and the venue, then it was helmets and gloves on and I contacted the restaurant to give them the number of people that would be attending.
Leaving Damelin the ride turned left onto the N2 and taking the left off ramp onto the M3 and staying on the M3 past U.C.T., slowing down as we went through the traffic lights at Newlands Avenue/Kirstenbosch turnoff to avoid any speed fines. Up Wynberg hill and down onto the Simon van der Stel freeway/Blue Route to the end at Steenberg Road, where we turned right towards Westlake and proceeding left again onto Ou Kaapse Weg. At the bottom of Ou Kaapse Weg at the Silver mine turn off, the ride turned right and proceeded to the next T intersection and turned right onto Chapmans Peak Drive. This section all the way into Hout Bay was very slow going as it was only three weeks before the Cape Town Cycle Tour. It seemed every cyclist was on the route getting in the last bit of training.
At the toll on Chapmans Peak the club paid for the toll fees. A big THANK YOU to Nomads Motorcycle Club
I must make a mental note not to organize rides around the Peninsula from January until after the Buffalo Rally in March.
Proceeding through Hout Bay we turned left at the first traffic circle, Princess Street, and headed towards the next traffic circle at Victoria Road, where we encountered thick sand in the circle, blown off the beach. With a wobble and missing a heartbeat we all got through and it was then on our way up Suikerbossie Hill and past Llandudno and the Twelve Apostles Hotel and into Camps Bay.
Opposite the restaurant we pulled the bikes up onto the very wide sidewalk, out of the pedestrians walking area. This section of the sidewalk must be almost 5 meters wide.
We all crossed the road and entered the restaurant and found Mike and Jenny already seated with their granddaughters. They of course had gone by car.
We were welcomed by our orders been taken and the coffee arrived and then the champagne was poured and then the Chairman stood up. It was quite an effort to get everybody`s attention, for Luderick to say thanks for the members attending the rides and the Club Captain for arranging the rides. Luderick then said to enjoy our breakfast and to have a safe trip to the Buffalo Rally.
The breakfast at this restaurant is well worth the money. All our appetites been satisfied and the bill settled, we all said our goodbyes and headed off to our respective residences.
Mandy and I popped in at Zonneblom, to see how the trials riders were doing. We stayed about half an hour, then we also headed home. All in all, a good morning was had by all.
There were 22 members and 5 visitors. 12 bikes and 4 cars.
