A new year after the previous disastrous one, hopefully this year will be 1000 times better.
Once again up early and off to Mowbray to see who of our members would still be in Cape Town to ride. For once I was the first person to get to Damelin. Soon after my arrival the other few riders arrived. At 08h00 I briefed the riders on the venue and the route.
We set off onto the N2 turning left onto the M5, over Koeberg Interchange and onto the N1, taking the service road past Century City. At the N7 we turned left onto the N7 and continued it all the way to Malmesbury. We then took the off ramp to go into and through Malmesbury and exited onto the road towards Riebeek West, Tulbagh and Wolsley.
We travelled over two passes, namely, Bothmaskloof Pass and Nuwekloof Pass. We continued past the two turn offs to Tulbagh and proceeded towards Wolsley. Again, we went past the turn offs to Wolsley, until we had to turn right just before Michells Pass, which takes you into Ceres. Now we were heading towards Bainskloof and the N1.
This is an exceedingly long road, considering one is only going for a Sunday ride and not heading off to a rally. About 5 kilometres before the N1, John Lee pulled up next to me and indicated that he had gone onto reserve on his bike’s petrol tank. I acknowledged the fact and slowed the ride down slightly.
At the N1” T” junction we turned right onto the N1 back towards Paarl and Cape Town. About 3 kilometres later we turned into the Shell Ultra City complex and parked our bikes while John went off to refuel his bike. By the time he had finished refuelling his bike we had all gotten off ours and he asked me is this where we are stopping. I replied” Yes”.
We all sat at the takeaway tables and ordered our food from the takeaway section. Good food at reasonable prices. We paid for our food when we ordered it. No hassles over who had what. Having quenched our thirsts and eaten our food we all left. I went off to Robertson to see a friend of mine, namely, Peter Tillman. We ended up at the Birds Paradise Restaurant for lunch. Lots of reminiscing about the old days of our members and Honda Center. After our lunch, I refuelled my bike and left for my residence.
There were 9 members, 2 visitors and 8 bikes.
