Once again, the weather was ideal for riding our bikes on this Sunday. Up early to get ready and setting off to Damelin to join the other members wanting to ride for the club. Arriving at Damelin there were already a few members waiting.
At 08h30 I briefed the members as to where we were going and the route that we would be taking. Helmets and gloves were put on and the bikes were started up and off we set.
Turning left out of the parking area onto Liesbeek Park Way [there is no other way to get out of there], then right onto the N2 and left onto the M5. Over Koeberg Interchange onto the service road of the N1, taking the off ramp onto the N7. We continued along the N7 taking the Melkbosstrand off ramp and proceeded down to the R27 [West coast road]. We then turned right and rode all the way on the R27 until the Yzerfontein turn off where we turned left and proceeded towards the small town of Yzerfontein.
At the first stop sign we turned left into Buitenkant Street and continued until we saw the restaurant on the left and John and Niki de Quintal on the stoep eagerly awaiting our arrival. They had driven through from Malmesbury in their LDV. It was great to see them on another ride other than when we got to their fish shop on an official ride.
Everybody settled down at the tables, some inside and some outside. It was warmer outside in the sun. Soon hot beverages and breakfasts were ordered, and general chatter got started. The service was a bit slow as one of the kitchen staff had not arrived for work. The rest of the staff did a sterling job in getting our breakfasts out as quick as possible. All in all, the breakfast was worth waiting for.
Just before we were due to pay for our breakfasts, Barry and Suzette Wrankmore joined us. They had spent the weekend in Yzerfontein, had had breakfast at another restaurant and then came around to pay us a visit.
Having paid for breakfasts, it was then time to depart for our respective residences. Mandy and I went around to the restaurant that Barry had had his breakfast at, we will definitely not be going there as it is a very small restaurant and would not be able to handle a crowd of 10 or more.
There were 20 members, 2 visitors, 14 bikes and 2 LDV`s.
