We left Goodwood in the sun but arrived at Damelin under heavy cloud cover and was met with quite a few Nomads already in waiting. More Nomads and visitors arrived including David (Luderick’s brother) and Tracey Jacoby who just purchased a new motorcycle.
After a bit of chatting Ian whistled us to attention and explained the route to be taken. It took us onto Liesbeeck Parkway, N2, Eastern Boulevard, Nelson Mandela Boulevard, right into Table Bay Boulevard, Marine Drive, Sandown Road through Parklands, Malibongwe Drive, over N7, Potsdam Road, right onto M13, Durbanville Hills, Tygerbergvalley Road, right onto M31 (Carl Cronje Drive), right into Van Riebeeckshof Road and Hollow Tree, our venue for the morning.
At the venue we were seated outside under the trees and we could help ourselves to tea and coffee. Different juices and champagne was placed on the tables and breakfast was to be a hot buffet which comprised of scrambled egg, mushrooms, grilled tomato, bacon, different sausages and ample toast and preserves. As I am not a meat eater I had to be happy with scramble egg on toast, but generally breakfast seemed to go down quite well.
Ian and Luderick made short speeches and a champagne toast was in order. As it was Wally’s birthday, some even attempted to sing to him, but shall I dare say, it was not very successful.
Today was the first time that Nomads flags were taken on the road and that made for a very slow ride – more of an procession than a breakfast ride. Personally, I found it very boring, but that is my opinion, as others found the slow going pretty enjoyable.
The ride was well attended by about 40 people. Thank you Nomads for sponsoring those of us that did our bit at the rallies. To all visitors, hope to see you all again in the near future.
That’s all folks.
Take care out there.
