After some mixed weather signals the previous week, Sunday morning arrived full of bright sunshine. It was an early 8am start and on the N1 towards Damelin you could see the trees shaking their heads furiously in the wind. Summer is definitely on it’s way!
We arrived at Damelin with quite a few Nomads already in attendance and more arriving soon. Andre explained the route to be taken but first we had to make our way to Marsh Memorial to pick the kids – our stars in this morning’s ride. It was their chance to take our pillion places and we were demoted to hitching a ride in a quad……
The route took them onto the N2, M5, N1, R44 towards Stellenbosch, through Stellenbosch onto Boardway Boulevard towards Somerset West and then left onto the N2 and Monkey Town.
We in the meantime had arrived and after having a look around, some waited outside for the bikes to arrive while others made themselves comfortable in the restaurant on the far end of the property.
When the bikes arrived there were huge smiles all around and plenty stories to share and soon the kids and some “adult kids” were taken on a tour to see the monkeys. After finishing the tour and learning all there is to learn about these primates it was time to have a bit to eat. Brunch consisted of a boerewors roll, chips and cool-drink, compliments of Nomads or you could order from the menu.
We sat around chatting for a while and the children got rid of all their extra energy in the huge play park in the garden where the trampoline was definitely a huge hit.
Then it was time again to round up all the pillions to make the windy way home. I hitched a ride with Lizl and we met back at Marsh Memorial where we left some very tired and satisfied customers already looking forward to next year’s outing.
There were about 40 people on the ride, plus 2 child minders and 20 children.
