The first Sunday of the Month it was up early as usual as there was a ride to attend/lead. The weather was looking a bit dicey with a North Westerly wind blowing and threatening rain.
Off to Damelin to meet up with the members who had also got up early to attend today`s ride. At 08h00 I briefed the riders on the venue and the route that we were going to take. A quick phone call to the restaurant to give them the numbers that would be having breakfast.
Once everybody had put on their helmets, gloves and had stopped chatting and started their bikes, we set off onto the N2 turning onto the M5, onto the N1 and staying on the N1 and in the right lane we proceeded all the way to the turn off just before the Toll at the tunnel. Turning left and then right and onto the old pass of Du Toit`s Kloof pass.
The pass was very quiet with a couple of baboons out early foraging for food and taking no notice of these bikes proceeding past them.
The pass has not changed at all since the tunnel was opened and I think we still get a thrill of riding over the pass, rather than having to go through the tunnel and having to pay the toll fee and breathing the foul-smelling air in the tunnel.
Exiting the tunnel into bright sunshine and proceeding through the few short bends and it was soon time to slow down and turn left into the lodge. Finding parking outside the lodge`s reception, Val, Konrad and Barrett were waiting for us as they had just come from a rally in the area. It was time to enter the restaurant and settle down at the tables and to order hot drinks and breakfast.
Having placed our breakfast orders and warmed up our insides with the hot drinks, the conversation got started. Soon the breakfasts arrived, and everybody got busy with their respective meals. All the food was consumed and lots of toast was had as well.
Then it was time to settle the bill and sort out who had what meal with extra tea/coffee or cappuccino. That was sorted and then everybody got ready to leave via different routes to either continue riding for the day or prior arrangements back home.
A huge THANK YOU to Mandy for handling of the settling of the bill at every breakfast ride. This is not the easiest of tasks as people do not always remember what they had for breakfast.
There were 17 members and 4 visitors and 15 bikes on the ride.
