I slept rather late this morning but could do all the necessary and we were on our way to Damelin in good time. Paul, Cornelia and Andre were already there seeking some shade when we arrived. More Nomads arrived in drips and drabs (the hot weather getting to them). Last one to arrive was a visitor, Zibeth with her 1600 Trike. Krog did his usual speech, volunteered Kevin as tail end Charlie and off we went.
The route took us onto the N2, Baden Powell Drive (R310), right towards Stellenbosch where Krog made a quick stop to make sure everyone was still with the group. Then through Stellenbosch, a very pedestrian Helshoogte, right at Simondium towards Franschhoek, left opposite Jim Fouche Park, passed Ou Hollandsche Molen and Victor Verster and left onto N1 towards Cape Town. About 3km down the road we took another left underneath the freeway into Paarl Main Road and our venue for the day, De Kelder Restaurant in the Spar Shopping Centre.
David did his thing with the video camera and as we arrived at the venue Yvonne and Lee were waiting for us camera in hand. This morning we had a rather big quad squad, Mark, Yvonne, Henry, Antionette and brother Leon, and Rob (who combined work with pleasure) and Lizl. But still no Kevin or Zibeth. Somewhere after Helshoogte they disappeared.
Inside the venue we had to play a game of musical chairs as the staff catered for stick people (and apart from a few, Nomads ain’t stick people). Eventually everyone had a seat but Kevin and Zibeth were still missing with no phone call.
We all helped ourselves to juice and coffee and orders were taken. The most popular choices were Sunrise Breakfast for R40 or English Breakfast for R56.
English breakfast comprised of eggs, bacon, tomato, sausage, mushrooms, hash brown, chips, toast and preserves. Definitely worth the money.
As our food arrived we heard a noise outside and there were Kevin and Zibeth. The trike ran out of fuel on the Franschhoek road and Kevin, the ever gentleman he is, drove into town to fetch some fuel for the stricken 3-wheeler. Thanx Kevin for taking such good care of our visitor.
We got the two seated and food ordered and the rest of us sat around having some interesting conversations. We had three birthday boys today. Kevin Harvey on the 15th (sorry Kev, we never saw your sparkler so you missed out on the singing), Paul who’s birthday is today and Andre on the 19th. They all received sparklers and some happy birthday singing and hip hip hurrays followed (guys you can ride motorcycles but the singing still needs lots of practice). Wishing them an awesome day and super 2016.
Then it was time to get going again and when we got outside it felt like walking into a furnace.
Thank you everyone who attended the ride this morning. Everyone not feeling well, hope you all make a very speedy recovery and those still on holiday, time to get back to work and on the rides again.
27 people on the ride, 22 members, 5 visitors on 10 bikes, 1 trike and 4 cars.
Honda x 4, Suzuki and BMW x 2 each, Triumph and Kawa x 1 each.
That is it for now.
Keep it real on the roads.
Till next time.
Jean
