REPORT ON THE CLUB’S BREAKFAST RIDE TO KALFI’S RESTAURANT, FRANSCHHOEK ON 17 APRIL 2016 – BY JEAN POTGIETER

When we woke up this morning the sky was solidly covered with some funny looking clouds, but the weatherman said “no rain” so we took him at his word and did not include rain suits.

We arrived at Damelin well before the time and was shortly joined by Francois and Salomien on their first ride with Nomads.

Robert was next to arrive and then there was a whole crowd so I lost count of who was who. On eight Krog did the usual Club Captain thing and we were ready to go. The route took us onto the N2, Baden Powel Drive, R310, through Stellenbosch, Helshoogte, and right at stop street towards Franschhoek and Kalfi’s Restaurant our venue for the day.

Krog stopped just past the Movie Studio as he noted that Mark was not with the pack. Mike, as Tail-end Charlie, said that he turned off onto the M5 and after a few minutes we proceeded thinking that Mark took a short cut to the venue. It turned out that he took the M5 turn off and after realizing his error, turned around but was unable to catch up with the pack as we were already about 15 minutes down the road.

Now we all know that Franschhoek is a biker’s haven on Sunday morning so no wonder we had to fight for a parking space in the “almost” sun as we arrive.

Faithful Yvonne was there camera in hand and furiously clicking away. The rest of the quad squad were Alistair, Henry and Antionette with niece Natalie, Danii and Shannon and Johnny Quintal and Niki.

We were welcomed by friendly staff and settled quickly with drinks and eats orders taken in good time. While waiting for our munchies, a bowl filled with tiny Vetkoek arrived which went down real well with some butter and jam. Really nice touch Kalfi’s.

Krog ordered the farmer’s breakfast, Antionette an omelette, Cornelia some cheese cake and the rest of us the Kalfi breakfast. Food was absolutely yummy. As it is Jenny’s birthday, a sparkler arrived with her food and we all sang happy birthday. Man, Nomads still have to work on this singing thing.

We sat chat-ting for a while and then it was time for another good morning to come to an end. Krog and I took the road back via Helshoogte, R44 and N1 and was just in time to watch the second WSB race.

Thank you everyone for attending the ride this morning, even when the cloud covered looked a bit weird. Hope to see you all, and some more, again on the next ride.

We had 35 people on the ride, 28 members, 7 visitors, 14 bikes and 5 quads.
BMW x 6, Honda x 3, Triumph x 2, Kawa, HD and Yamaha x 1 each.

That is my say for the day.
Keep it safe on the road.
Till next time.
Jean.
