After a not so restful night, I woke up this morning and it was cold and dark. Now, I do not do “cold and dark” and was ready to pull the blankets over my head but my son wanted to talk. So now I was awake and decided to join Krog on the ride.
We arrived at Damelin at the same time as Kevin and Rob with Ian and Mandy and Paul and Cornelia already in attendance. Slowly more Nomads trickled in and Ian did his pep talk under much hackling as he could not remember the names of some of the roads, Kevin was appointed Tail-end Charlie and then we were off. The route took us onto the N2, M5, N1, Sable Road, left on N7, past Du Noon, left onto Sandown Road, through Parklands, left onto R27 (Westcoast Road) towards Milnerton, right at Woodbridge Island to Maestro’s, our venue for the morning. Christo and Lisa joined us just past Berkeley Road on the M5.
At the venue we were met by Danii and Lizl, with Henry and Antionette arriving a bit later and Mark and Yvonne much later. You guys have double the number of wheels so should get to the venue faster … Yvonne again took on the duty of resident photographer trying to catch us in the most awkward poses.
Although it was not such a cold morning on the bike, there was still a chilly breeze and by the time we got to the venue I could do with something hot to warm up the bones.
We were seated at two long tables indoors, and offered a buffet for R75 including hot drinks or could order from the menu. I think everyone opted for the buffet which comprised of a cold buffet of cereals, fruit, yogurt and flapjacks, and a warm meal including sausages, bacon, scrambled egg, mushrooms, French toast, baked beans and toast with butter and jam. Considering the bottomless coffee and tea, a fair spread for the price paid.
We sat chatting for a while longer and then took on the shortish road home to get ready for a lazy afternoon in the sun.
Thank you to everyone who gave up their warm beds to come on the ride this morning. Much appreciated.
We were 24 people on the ride on 11 bikes and 3 cars.
