REPORT ON THE CLUB’S BREAKFAST RIDE TO ON THE EDGE RESTAURANT, BETTY’S BAY ON 5 FEBRUARY 2017 – BY CAROLE HORN

It looked like the perfect day for a lovely breakfast ride.

We arrived at Damelin and the only person there was Kevin. We thought we were either early or no-one was coming. LOL

After a little while we had company and all were in good spirits and eager for a nice ride.

The route we took was from Damelin onto the N2. We travelled on the N2 all the way until the bottom of the pass and turned right to Gordon’s Bay. The traffic on the N2 was a little busy and we were joined by Mark, Mandy and Yvonne in her car. We were also joined by Henry on his bike.
We then followed the road around the mountain past Rooi Els and into Betty’s Bay. As it was a beautiful day there were lots of other bikes on the road.
It was a bit chilly in the shadow of the mountain though and the wind was gusty in certain spots – Brrrr.

When we got to Betty’s Bay we were not quite sure of where the restaurant was situated and got a little lost – a kind local led us right to the restaurant.
I don’t think we would have found it ourselves. It is no wonder Yvonne got there before us and she was there ready with camera.

It was a lovely spot. I joked with Aunty Helewese when I saw one porta potty outside. Luckily, they had nice bathrooms.
At the restaurant, we were met by Denise and Slappers and a friend of theirs. The special “Jackass” breakfast was very nice and well worth it.
We were also served quite quickly (thank you for that as we were all hungry).

The restaurant is next to a Penguin rescue / rehabilitation habitat so that was cool. You could walk along and see the penguins in their natural habitat, as well as a few large Dassies and some weird Lizards.

This ride was a perfect display of our beautiful country and as I was a pillion I could look at the lovely view while others had to concentrate on the road.
The nicest view is of Rooi Els just as you reach the rise going home ” how beautiful”.

All the Bikers rode nicely in formation and at a reasonable speed, it was a very enjoyable ride.

We were a group of 22 Members and 4 Visitors. 13 Bikes and 2 Cars.
BMW 7, HONDA 2, Suzuki 2, Yamaha 1 & Triumph 1

We would like to thank Denise for organising this venue – “Thank you very much “
