Another beautiful Winter`s morning. What more could any motorcyclist ask for? I was the first one to arrive at Damelin at 08h00.
Shortly afterwards the other club members arrived. At 08h30 I welcomed everybody and wished the men happy Father`s Day and the women happy Mother`s day for the second Sunday of May as Nomads do not ride on the 2nd Sunday of the Month. Needless to say Helewese mentioned something about that should change, which I think most of us chose to ignore. Sorry Helewese!!
Before setting off I gave Lizl Todd an orange reflective jacket to wear as they were riding in the middle of the group. The idea behind this is if the group got split up the rider following Robert and Lizl would be able to see them up ahead. Tail end Charlie, Kevin, had a lime green reflective jacket, so I hopefully would be able to see where the back of the group was.
Today I was on Danielle`s Harley Davidson 750 street, which is designed after the V rod. Having explained the route, we set off onto the N2, through Hospital Bend, onto Nelson Mandela Boulevard, [old Eastern Boulevard], onto the elevated freeway, up Buitengraght Street which eventually becomes Kloofnek road, over Kloofnek past Tafelberg road onto Camps Bay Drive, turning right into Geneva Drive, as there are road works just past Geneva Drive and the road is closed except to residents. Down Geneva Drive to Victoria Road, Camps Bay, turning left and proceeding through Bakoven. Just beyond Bakoven I pulled the group over to wait for the bikes that had got held up at traffic lights. We waited mere seconds, when the back markers in the group joined up with us and we set off again. We proceeded along Victoria Road past the Twelve Apostles Hotel, past the turn off to Llandudno, past Suikerbossie Restaurant on the left, down that long downhill turning left into Victoria Avenue and again left at the second traffic circle onto Hout Bay Main road. Turning right at Constantia neck, down Constantia Main road turning right into Ladies mile drive extension over the M3 and turning right onto the M3 to Steenberg road and turned right to go up Ou Kaapseweg. This side [the Eastern side] of Ou Kaapseweg was pleasant and the road surface was dry. Once over the top the road surface was wet in patches where the sun had not yet got to drying out the road surface. Lots of traffic in both directions, past Sun Valley Mall, through the traffic lights at Fishhoek/Kommetjie intersection, up Black Hill to Glencairn, turning right towards Simonstown. Just after Dido Valley the group turned right into Red Hill with its tight and very wet corners. The one disadvantage of riding through passes at this time of the year, where the sun has not had a chance to dry out the roads. At the Perdekloof intersection we turned right towards Scarborough and Camel Rock. Once we had gone through Camel Rock I could only see three bikes behind me, so I stopped the ride at a convenient place and waited, but no cell phone call or sms. Krog and Jean turned back to see what the problem was. Shortly afterwards the rest of the bikes came round the corner and we proceeded through Misty Cliffs, up the very bumpy Pass overlooking Slangkop Lighthouse and down the other side into Kommetjie, where we turned left at Fisherman`s Restaurant and parked the bikes at the side of the Restaurant.
Slowly the story filtered through as to what happened to Glen. He will get his chance at the next General Meeting to relate the exact details.
We all proceeded inside/through the restaurant and sat outside in the sun, where Mandy handed out miniature bottles of liqueur and a small slab of chocolate with a small card wishing everybody a happy father`s day and in [mother`s day], from Nomad`s MCC. Everybody ordered coffee, cappuccino, tea and then it was time for breakfast. Everybody having filled the hole in their stomachs, settled their breakfast tab and then set off to their various residences.
Once again a perfect day for riding our motorcycles with our fellow riders and pleasant company.
The ride was attended by 22 members, 2 visitors. 12 bikes and 4 cars. BMW-3. Harley Davidson-1. Honda-3. Kawasaki-1. Suzuki-3. Yamaha-1. Thank you to all the members and visitors who attended the ride and for supporting the club.
