As I stuck my nose against the window the weather looked good so I decided to get into bike battle armour and do the peninsula ride.
We arrived at Damelin and was met by Ian, Paul, Cornelia and Kevin. More Nomads slowly filtered in, including a visitor, Gavin on a R1. Just as Ian was about to call us together for the usual pep talk, a Repsol Honda burst onto the parking lot with John in the saddle.
The route this morning took us left onto the N2, right onto Nelson Mandela Boulevard, left into Buitengracht Street, over Kloofnek, Geneva Drive, Camps Bay, Llundudno, past Suikerbossie, Hout Bay, Constantia Nek, right onto Ladies Mile Extension, M3, right onto Tokai Road, Ou Kaapse Weg, Black Hill, Simon’s Town Road, Red Hill, past Scarborough, Misty Cliffs towards Kommetjie and our venue for the morning, Fishermans.
Ian stopped and slowed down along the way for the riders to regroup but as we past Misty Cliffs we lost quite a few bikes and Krog decided to turn back to find out why. About two kilometers down the road we met up with the rest of the group and had to carry on a few more kilometres before we could find a suitable turning point and off course, Krog grabbed the chance to increase the speed just a “tad” more for us to catch up again.
At the venue we found out that the hold up was actually Glen who had a slight mishap on the road and ended up in the bush with the bike on top of him. Happy to report that apart from a slightly bruised ego, man and machine seemed mostly intact.
We found our little place in the sun and the waiter was quick to take our drinks order, but that was about it. I had to ask four times before getting my mango juice. The omelette I ordered was reasonably tasty but arrived cold. Price we have to pay for sitting outdoors in winter.
After breakfast we sat chatting for a while and then took the long road back home. The Ou Kaapse Weg was pretty busy and me thinks the guy in the red Ferrari must have parted with a few sharp words as he sat in the queue, not being able to pass.
A pleasant surprise was Yvonne and Mark arriving just as we were about to receive our food. Good to see you Mark and hope your recovery will be quick and complete.
Thank you everyone who made it to the ride this morning. Also a huge thank you to Mandy for the little mother/father’s day gift – much appreciated.
24 people on the run
22 members, 2 visitors on 12 bikes and 4 quads.
That’s all folks.
Take care and keep safe.
Jean.
