REPORT ON THE CLUB’S BREAKFAST RIDE TO THE OCEAN BLUE RESTAURANT, CAMPS BAY ON 15 FEBRUARY 2015 – BY JEAN POTGIETER

Being up since the early hours of the morning and being glued to the telly watching the Proteas doing their thing against Zimbabwe, I was in two minds about going on the ride. The weather was also a bit dodgy, with some heavy clouds over Table Mountain, but in the end I decided to lift my butt of the couch and get ready.

We arrived at Damelin where the usual culprits had already reported for duty with some more arriving soon after. James was our designated club captain in the absence of Ian, and he gave a short recap of the route, and with Kevin, Mike and Luderick making up the rear, we were on our way.

The route took us left onto N2, off ramp onto M3, all the way through Bishopscourt and then left onto Ladies Mile Road, left again onto M41, Constantia Main Road (oops, I think captain J missed a couple of turns here), over Constantia Neck where the road becomes M63, Hout Bay Road, right at the first circle in Hout Bay onto Victoria Road, right again at the robots carrying on with Victoria Road past Suikerbossie, Llundudno, 12 Apostles and all the way into Camps Bay and the Ocean Blue Restaurant, our venue for the day.

Here we were met by Mark and Yvonne, and Henry and Antionette who brought some guests for breakfast. Wally arrived soon afterwards.

Everyone found a place to sit and Ivan and friendly staff were immediately at attention with menus. Our drinks and eats orders were taken and in no time we had a plate of steaming hot food in front of us. Krog and Christo ordered traditional breakfast while Lisa and myself opted for omelettes. Apart from the waiter getting a bit mixed up with white/brown toast, food was good and company even better.

The ride was attended by approximately 28 people. Welcome to our visitors – hope to see more of you in the future. And James, well done for leading the club for the first time – really good job.

Then it was time again to get back in the saddle and make our way home. We opted to go over the mountain through Town and back on the N1. A very enjoyable ride although fairly windy at places. Now ready to settle down watching cricket until the lights go out.

Just want to ask one question? Where have all the Kawas gone???? Feeling a bit like the Lone Ranger at the moment!

Cheers Jean.
