Sunday morning dawned a little cooler than the previous days of the preceding week.
Upon arrival at Damelin there were 3 members already there. As the minutes ticked by so more and more members arrived.
Alistair Horn, our new co-opted Club Captain briefed us on the route and off we set.
Leaving Damelin the ride turned onto the N2, then left onto the M5, over the new flyover bridge at Koeberg Interchange onto the N1. Here Sean Anderson upon joining the N1 overtook a vehicle on the solid white line [barrier line/channelizing line]. This is a traffic violation, which will cause you to be nominated for the cog up at the February meeting.
The ride proceeded along the N1 service road turning onto the N7 until the Philadelphia off ramp, where we turned right under the N7 and headed towards and through Philadelphia. We continued along this road until we connected with the Klipheuwel Road and turned left towards Malmesbury. We all arrived in Malmesbury together despite been separated along the road.
The ride turned right twice in Malmesbury and we were on the road towards Riebeek Kasteel.
Riding through the Boesmanskloof Pass there were no baboons to be seen and we slowed down at the bottom to turn left towards Riebeek Kasteel.
Upon arrival at the Pleasant Pheasant Restaurant, Yvonne, Mark and Val were waiting for us. Yvonne ever ready with her camera to document our arrival. A huge Thank you Yvonne, as no one else would do this.
One of the visitors, unfortunately dropped her new Triumph Tiger sport, on the gravel as her legs were a bit short for the bike. Very minor cosmetic damage was done. She will be ordering a lowering kit for her bike.
We all parked our bikes and sat down at the tables outside under the trees. Coffees and breakfast were ordered and everybody enjoyed their meal. Soon it was time to pay for the meals and depart for other engagements.
Some pointers on riding in staggered formation;
David and Tracy Jacoby ride with Go Pro cameras mounted on their bike to film the club ride.
When they drop back to film the second half of the ride, the bike riding behind David is to move forward to fill his place. NO SWOPPING OF YOUR RIDING POSITION FROM RIGHT TO LEFT OR LEFT TO RIGHT.
Find your comfortable riding position at the beginning of the ride and stay there.
VISITORS/GUESTS are to be informed at the beginning of the ride to ride at the rear just in front of the TAIL END CHARLIE and to stay there. Not to change position should the ride stop for any reason.
There were 22 members and 8 visitors on the ride.
