This morning when I woke up my mind was also made up. I was just too cold to get on the back of the bike. So when I got Mandy’s message I was all too eager to accept the offer and go 4-wheeling to the venue.
Krog left and as our power was due to shed its load at 8am I decided to wait outside the gate for Mandy and Danii to arrive. Taking the shortest route we arrived at Rhodes Memorial Restaurant at about 8h30 to be met by John who had already ordered his first cup of tea. Believe me, quite a few people had the same idea as me to join the quad squad as Yvonne and Cornelia also arrived shortly afterwards.
Krog went to Damelin, so I had to get the details of the ride from him which was left on N2, up Hospital bend, onto Nelson Mandela Boulevard, left at Hertzog Boulevard off-ramp, left into Tennant Street, over station deck, past Cape Town Technikon, De Villiers Street, left at the robots at Viglietti Motors into Roeland Street which become De Waal Drive, M3, just past UCT took Rhodes Memorial turn-off and then the windy road up to the restaurant, the venue for the day.
At that stage the sun just peeped through the clouds so we opted to sit outside and the only thing good about that for me was the view. It was absolutely freezing cold and the food didn’t stay warm for long either. I ordered a muffin with butter and cheese. The others at the table ordered English breakfast which was reasonable but I found the prices a bit steep when it came to value for money.
We sat chatting for a while and then it was time to get back in the saddle and take on the short ride home. Luckily I could get back into 4-wheels with a heater, so no problems there.
We had 22 people on the ride this morning. Hearty welcome to long time ex-Nomad members Menno and Janneke (who took my place in the passenger seat). Hope we will see you on more rides in the future, the mean greenie needs some Kawa company.
