Sunday morning arrived overcast and windy so I was not really in the mood for biking gear but decided to “just do it”. We were the first ones at Damelin, with Ian and visitor Shannon arriving shortly thereafter. More Nomads piled in and John Lee also brought along his neighbour, Rod on a 250 Kawa, to keep Krog’s big brother Ninja company.
Krog called everyone together and gave the route for the day. Damelin, N2, M5, N1, left on R44 towards Wellington. Left on Voor-Paardeberg Road, again left on R304, right on R302 through Philadelphia. Underneath N7, to T-junction, left Mamre Road (R304). Right onto Melkbosstrand Road (M19) and our venue for the day Seafood Lapa on Beach Road. Somewhere, something went wrong and we ended up in Malmesbury and doing about 40km extra. As it was, Kevin, our Knight in shining armour, had the route on his garmin and could lead the split group home. Thanx Kev (this is becoming a habit).
At the venue we were welcomed by Mark P (well done for making it to the venue on the BMW), Yvonne, Mandy and Danny, Val and Alistair, Henry and Antionette and after a short delay Sue and family.
Our drinks orders were taken swiftly, but that was where the efficient service ended. Breakfast burgers or vegetarian wraps were the option, but quite a few opted for a full breakfast. Unfortunately although the filling of my veggie wrap was tasty, the wrap itself was cold and chalky. Generally it just looked like the food was a bit on the dry side. Although arrangements were made beforehand, I felt that the waiters were very much confused as to that was expected of them. Pity, The Lapa had a reputation of good service which is now somewhat in tatters.
After some chatter, most of us decided to brave the strong south easter and head home. Hearty welcome to all the visitors, hope to see you again and also to Bike Mike on his just as impressive Triumph Rocket 3. Hope this is the beginning of plenty runs for you guys.
