Yes, I have been watching the weather forecast with a beady eye and this morning it was very clear that News24 got it very wrong as they have been showing rain for today all week. Not a cloud in the sky, not a bit of wind blowing, so apart from being pretty chilly, perfect weather for bike riding.
Mark P, Luderick, Helewese and Lee were already at Damelin when we arrived and soon more Nomads and visitors followed. Just before 8h30 Krog called everyone together and explained the route to the deep South.
We turned off onto the N2, then M3 through Newlands, turn off at Wynberg, back of Tokai, Ou Kaapse Weg, Black Hill and then to Simon’s Town Country Club our venue for the morning. Krog stopped on Simon’s Town Road to regroup and we waited a good ten minutes for the back markers to catch up. Apparently this delay has something to do with Ian P, but nobody would tell. I am sure the story will surface at the next meeting though. Cog up!!!
At the venue we were met by the quad squad which included Yvonne, Val and Alistair, Danii and Shannon, Sue, Carey, Clinton and kids.
We were met by Jacky (ex manageress of Franscois in Fish Hoek) and her group of friendly staff members.
A room was prepared for us, but now, as I previously said, most of Nomads are not “stick” people, so we quickly re-arranged chairs and tables and everyone had a place to sit with a cup of hot coffee or tea in hand.
Breakfast was a buffet which included fried eggs, bacon, sausage, tomato, chips, toast and tea or coffee. At R45 per person very well priced.
As it was an almost perfect day weather wise, False Bay was calm and the view from the venue an absolute bonus.
Soon it was time to get our gear together and make our way to various other destinations. Some visiting the trials section in Elgin, others making a turn at Fisherman’s in Kommetjie and Krog and myself visiting Ellie’s Deli in Noordhoek as a possible future breakfast venue.
Traffic on the Ou Kaapse Weg and all the way home was really heavy so we took a very sedate ride back.
Thank you everyone who braved the cold this morning to come on the ride. Welcome to all visitors and also to Gerhardus all the way from Paarl and Lee, glad to see those Namibian guys eventually let you go. Huge congratulations to Simon on the purchase of a DL 1000. May it give you plenty of enjoyable rides to come.
We had 41 people for breakfast. 30 members, 8 visitors and 3 kids.
20 bikes and 4 cars.
