On this Sunday morning it was raining at 04h00 until about 06h00, and I thought that it was going to rain on the ride. When I woke up I looked out the window and saw that the clouds were breaking up and disappearing and the sky was clearing.
Upon arrival at Damelin there was only the Chairman and Vice Chairman waiting for the rest of the members to arrive. Shortly afterwards a few more members arrived.
I gave my briefing on the route, when the Meirings arrived, followed shortly by John Lee. Having repeated my briefing for the Meirings I was not going to repeat it for John. He would just have to slot in on the ride.
This being the second ride of the month it was going to be a short ride and SHORT it was.
We left Damelin and turned left onto the N2, up Hospital Bend and onto De Waal Drive towards Cape Town. Just before the fire station in Roeland Street, we turned left onto Mill Street, past the Gardens shopping Centre, past the old De Waal Hotel, turning left into upper Orange Street, then we turned right into Camp Street between the two De Waal parks, all the way up to Kloofnek Road, turning left towards Table Mountain and Kloofnek. Here we encountered a few drops of rain which disappeared by the time we went over Kloofnek.
Down Camps Bay Drive to Victoria Road and onto the paved area on the beach side of Victoria Road, as there is no parking for motorcycles in Camps Bay opposite Ocean Blue Restaurant.
Having parked our motorcycles we crossed the road and headed towards the restaurant. Helewese had gotten a lift with her son, Glen, and was taking photographs.
We entered the restaurant and were warmly welcomed with hot cups of cappuccino and our breakfast orders were taken. The breakfast arriving shortly after the orders were taken.
Whilst eating our breakfast, Robbie Phillips arrived by CAR in white shorts, flip flops and a puffy jacket. I suppose living in Camps Bay he had an excuse to arrive by car.
Shortly afterwards Henry Morrison arrived on his bike. Late as usual. That’s what happens when you sit up till 02h00 watching movies the night before a ride.
The morning glory breakfast comprised of 2 rashes of bacon, 2 eggs, a piece of mini steak, mushrooms and a slice of rocket salad and toast.
There were 13 members. 1 visitor. 8 bikes. 2 cars.
BMW. 3. Harley Davidson. 1. Honda. 3. Suzuki. 1.
The next ride is on Sunday, 6th August 2017, going to the Fisherman`s Restaurant, Main Road, Kommetjie.
