Sunday morning arrived full of promise of a great wind free and sunny day and when we arrived at Damelin we found that Pietie just pipped us to the post. More members and visitors arrived and when Krog called everyone together for his pep talk we had a noisy and vibrant crowd ready for the ride.
The route took us onto the N2, Nelson Mandela Blvd, Hertzog Blvd, right on Christiaan Barnard Road, right on N1, Paarden Eiland off-ramp, Marine Drive (R27). Krog stopped just passed Blaauberg to make sure anyone kept behind at robots caught up. Then right on R315 (Yzerfontein/Darling), through Darling and 2 stop-go’s, and three kilometers outside Darling left direction Malmesbury. This was where a stone decided to find its way into Luderick’s back tyre with a instant puncture result.
We arrived at Swartland Fisheries where our hosts Johny and Niki D Quintal welcomed all and invited us to have some tea, coffee or a sniff of Obees. The quad squad was out in full force with Mike, Sue, Carey and kiddies, Dannii and Shannon, Val and Robin, Hendry and Antionette and Taylor family all on 4 wheels. Great to see you all.
Krog went back with a puncture kit to help Luderick in getting the tyre sufficiently pumped up to make it to the venue. Thanx Mike and Jenny for keeping Luderick company while waiting on assistance.
Plenty of pics and lots of talking down the road and it was time for Johny to show his fish frying expertise. And how good what that? Freshly fried crispy fish and chips followed by yummy ice cream cones and even champagne. Superb and all “on the house.”
After lots of chats and laughter, Luderick thanked Johny (long-time Nomads member) and Niki for the lovely meal and their great generosity and hospitality.
Then it was time for Krog to fill up with petrol and for us to make our way home again.
And now a question came up. NO JACKET REQUIRED – NO! NO JACKET AVAILABLE.
Just as well it was a wind free warm day because Le Roux had to make his way home in his t-shirt because his jacket left before him. So that question is: WHY!!!!! Not saying anything more!
We had a very good turn out this morning with 45 people on a variety of 21 bikes and 5 cars. Thank you all. Huge welcome to Ray Bergman and Shannon Swanson after their recent operations. Also Antionette and Pietie who are on the mend – hope you are all on the way to full recovery.
Thank you once again, John and Niki and also all your staff that assisted this morning. Really appreciated!
32 members, 11 visitors and 2 kiddies.
BMW x 8 Honda x 3 Kawa, Suzuki and KTM x 2 each, Yamaha, Triumph, HD and Aprillia x 1 each.
That is all from me.
Keep in on two wheels.
Till next time.
Cheers
Jean.
