The morning started off with cool temperatures and a light cloud cover, very high in the sky.
Off to Mowbray first to refuel at the service station in Durban Road then round the corner to Damelin to meet up with the rest of the riders of the day.
After greeting everybody it was then time to brief everybody on the route.
The route went from Damelin right onto the N2, turning left onto the M5, over the new flyover at Koeberg Interchange onto the N1. The road was not that busy, so it was into the right lane as soon as it was safe to do so.
We travelled all the way along the N1 until the Stellenbosch/Klipheuwel turnoff, turning left towards Klipheuwel and Durbanville. We continued along the R304, until the Klipheuwel turnoff, turning left and over the bridge and then turned right towards Philadelphia.
The ride continued along the R304 over the narrow single bridge crossing the Diep River, again no oncoming traffic, so we did not have to wait for the bridge to be cleared. While travelling along this section of the R304 we encountered patches of mist, but as soon as we were in the mist it was not that thick so we were able to see through the mist. The mist was lying in the dips in the road and the temperature dropped as we rode through the dips.
Slowing down to ride through Philadelphia and onto the N7, where the ride turned right and it was only 27 kilometers to Malmesbury. Riding along this section of the N7, it is under construction for widening and resurfacing, so the ride was slowed down a bit. We encountered more mist along the N7, once again it was not that thick as we could see through it.
We turned off at Malmesbury and proceeded past the car dealerships on the left and pulled up onto the sidewalk outside Swartland Fisheries, where we were met by Yvonne, ever ready with her camera and the other members of Nomads Motor Cycle Club who had travelled by car for various reasons.
We were warmly welcomed by Johnny and Nicky, our host and hostess for the morning. They had pots of coffee brewing and bottle of OB`s to warm those who had ridden by bike.
Whilst we were drinking our coffee and chatting, there was a surprise visit by Johan van Blerk and Roddy Mills, from the trials section. They had been busy with a car rally in the area and just popped in for a quick cup of coffee.
Johnny and his loyal staff started frying the fish and chips and before long it was served up and everybody sat down and thoroughly enjoyed their meal.
All too soon it was time to pay for our meal and head off home to watch the Moto GP. No further comment on the top riders who fell off.
Going by the comments in the ride register it was a good ride and yes it is supposed to be Winter, so get the warmer riding gear out and wear them on the rides.
There were 38 people comprising of 31 members and 7 visitors. 16 bikes and 7 cars.
